Swimming Lessons San Diego
Why should children learn to swim – for safety or because it’s fun? Both! Even if your child is terrified of the water, think of how much fun he’ll have once he’s gotten over his fear.
Water safety is extremely important in San Diego, where kids spend so much of their time at the pool or the beach. Fortunately there are so many swim schools and swimming teachers that you’re sure to find one that your child loves.
Learn to Swim
There’s a lot of debate about when a child should learn to swim. There are swim schools that will teach babies as young as three months old, and many of them cite water safety as a reason for baby swimming lessons. The truth is that children younger than five years old will not retain what they’ve learned for very long and cannot be counted on to remember the safety rules when they count the most. An adult should always be within arm’s reach of a preschool-age child in the water.
That said, infant swimming lessons are still a good idea. It will help young children be comfortable in the water and it’s lots of fun. Swim lessons for the youngest children usually involve a parent, which is great bonding time.
Swimming Classes
As kids get a little older, they can attend swimming class on their own. It’s great exercise and fun and of course will help the child be safer in the water. Practically every city recreation department offers swimming classes in the spring and summer. If you are interested in private swimming lessons, there are plenty of instructors that will come to you. Year round classes are offered at indoor swim schools too.
